A constant commitment to excellence to offer you the best experience on every visit.
Likewise, for a few years now, Islantilla beach has taken another step in its search for excellence, also achieving the Q for Quality, another Environmental Quality system promoted by the ICTE (Spanish Tourism Quality Institute), which in addition to measuring the environmental quality levels of the beach, assesses the management system from the organization and optimization of resources.
The Q for Quality It is the quintessential Spanish quality brand, supported by the Secretary of State for Tourism and the autonomous communities and is a guarantee of:
Islantilla obtains for the first time the Q for Quality in 2007, being the first Huelva destination to obtain it, to which other beaches have later joined. Get the Q for Quality It involves passing a series of strict audits that require a high degree of quality, safety and professionalism in the procedures. The difficult thing is not only to obtain the q of tourist quality, but to maintain it over the years, due to the high level of demand it entails.
Since 2024, Islantilla has also been awarded the S Sustainable Tourism label, a certification issued by the Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality which, following a rigorous audit, recognizes this destination's commitment to sustainability by meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the provision of services offered, implementing a more environmentally friendly and economically and socially sustainable tourism system, benefiting customers, visitors, workers, and residents in the area.
This is a certification system backed by an external audit that guarantees its reliability and rigor. It was developed by an institution like ICTES, with more than 25 years of experience in the sector and a world leader.
In a globalized world, beaches can no longer compete in simple economic terms, but in those qualities that differentiate them: free and open access to all beaches, accurate and accessible information, compliance with legislation, safety, professional lifeguards, attention to people with special needs or environmental education and attention to sensitive natural areas.
Islantilla It is, since its creation in the early nineties, a project that is committed to a new concept of tourism development. Quality has always been present in its urban design, in its subsequent evolution and in its promotional strategy.
Islantilla It obtained its Blue Flag for the first time in 1993, and is one of the oldest destinations in its renewal year after year, except for a brief interruption in 2012 due to works on the seafront.
Blue flag It is a European-level certificate with a marked environmental character that recognizes:
It is awarded by an international jury appointed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which brings together 74 NGOs from 64 countries on five continents. In Spain it is represented by ADEAC (Association of Environmental and Consumer Education).
Biosphere is the international sustainability management and certification system of the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI), based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 United Nations targets set by the European Union to achieve the programs established in the 2030 Agenda.
The Islantilla Tourist Office obtained the Biosphere certification on March 12, 2024.
With indicators developed jointly with UN-SDSN, Biosphere is the global methodology designed to connect the different stakeholders influencing the tourism sector (public institutions and entities, destination management organizations, businesses, citizens, and tourists), helping them define and make visible their sustainable strategies and objectives.
The continuous improvement system for sustainability includes an international methodology and online 100% tools to evaluate, recognize, and communicate the sustainable practices of any entity in real time, using a language adapted and understandable to enhance their value.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are subdivided into a series of categories, which are further divided into subcategories covering all areas related to the tourism sector. In the case of Islantilla, the certificate recognizes its Tourist Office, but is based on everything governed by the Commonwealth, including the CEFO training center, the Active Center, Andalucía Orienta services, El Camaleón Park, Islantilla beach itself, and the entire territory covered by the intermunicipal entity, both urban and natural.
Islantilla obtains the Flag for the first time Ecobeaches in 2009.
This is an award that rewards, based on a global technical vision, all aspects of the beach such as:
Islantilla has participated since 2007 in the SICTED project (Comprehensive Tourism Quality System in Destination), because it was selected by the Secretary of State for Tourism and by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces as a pilot destination for the implementation of this project.
It was selected because it has all the quality and prestige certificates in force in the tourism sector. The SICTED project consists of creating a common quality standard for all agents that operate in a destination (restaurants, hotels, tourist offices, leisure offers...) so that the tourist has a homogeneous perception of it.
Currently participating in this project are the beaches of Islantilla, La Antilla and Lepe, the tourist offices of Islantilla, Isla Cristina and Lepe, as well as a multitude of companies and hotels in this area:
