Updated information on Islantilla, direct from the official source.

Islantilla is finalizing the construction of a new bike lane that will connect Urbasur with La Antilla, with an investment of €391,816.87 financed by the European funds NextGenerationEU

It is part of the 'Between Green and Blue' Tourism Sustainability Plan, which has allocated 2,589,440 euros to actions carried out through the Commonwealth.

The tourist enclave of Islantilla will have a bike lane starting this summer, connecting Urbasur with La Antilla through this new sustainable mobility axis. This is included among the actions that make up the Tourism Sustainability Plan 'Between Green and Blue', an initiative financed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU Funds, representing a total investment of 2,589,440 euros for the execution of several projects through the Commonwealth jointly managed by the municipalities of Isla Cristina and Lepe.

Specifically, the new bike lane has cost 391,816.87 euros and will respond to the new mobility needs in a constantly evolving destination, allowing connectivity between centers with the ultimate goal of reducing the use of motor vehicles and encouraging the practice of sport in a safe and enjoyable environment such as Islantilla.

To learn more about the final touches on this project, the Executive Vice President of the Islantilla Association of Municipalities and First Deputy Mayor of Isla Cristina, Francisco Zamudio, had the opportunity to visit the last phase of the work on behalf of the association and accompanied by representatives of the company in charge of its execution, TR CONSTRUYA, SLU.

Zamudio emphasized that “this new facility is yet another example of the responsiveness of Public Administrations to a legitimate demand for mobility and accessibility, which we are prepared to meet so that Islantilla continues to be a benchmark in sustainability, especially since the European Union is providing us with the means to carry it out, along with a contribution from the Commonwealth itself to complete this project.”.

For their part, Agustín Muñoz and Emilio Álvarez, head of works and director of contracting of TR CONSTRUYA respectively, have detailed “an action that consists of three sections in a wooded area on Avenida de Río Frío, and a final section that runs along the boulevard of Paseo de Poniente reaching the beach, with its corresponding cleaning, clearing, excavation and adaptation of pedestrian crossings to widen them and comply with accessibility regulations.

The Deputy Mayor delegated by the Lepe City Council to the Islantilla Association of Municipalities, Mariana Otero, who was unable to participate in the visit due to scheduling conflicts, also praised the opening of this new axis as "a milestone in the history of our destination, which will allow the continuity of the La Antilla cycle and pedestrian path with a future connection to Isla Cristina through the pine forest.".

The project consisted of a two-way cycle path divided into two sections: one running through the Río Frío Avenue Park in an East-West direction, and another running along the Paseo de Poniente in a North-South direction.

The first section aims to create a route integrated into the existing landscape, prioritizing respect for existing vegetation, maintaining a separation distance from the pedestrian walkway that borders the park to the south, and running through the central area of the green strip to minimize the impact of disturbances caused by the A-5054 road. The second section runs along the Paseo de Poniente, and is located in the current central pedestrian area.

The Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination 'Between Green and Blue', integrated into the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, is financed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU Funds, and has involved an investment in the area of Islantilla, Isla Cristina and Lepe channeled through the Ministry of Industry and Tourism of the Government of Spain, as well as the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Junta de Andalucía.
