Islantilla begins work on creating a new elevated wooden plaza next to the seafront promenade to house the rescue and lifeguard services.
The construction, which represents an investment of €298,749 and will cover an area of 530 m², will include a restroom area and an access ramp adapted to the beach.
The Works, Urban Planning and Services Department of the Islantilla Community has launched work to create a new wooden decked plaza on the western side of the central plaza on the promenade. This ambitious project is part of the Beach Renovation Project, which has been underway since last April and is expected to be completed in spring 2026. The project, with a total investment of one million euros, aims to completely remodel the coastline of this coastal enclave shared by Lepe and Isla Cristina.
The new elevated plaza will be an extension of the seafront promenade, occupying an area of 530 square meters. It will include both the Lifeguard and Rescue services, a restroom area, and an adapted ramp for access to the beach. During the summer, assisted bathing services for people with reduced mobility will be offered, as well as a shaded area.
A total of 298,749 euros have been allocated for this project, which is expected to be completed by early summer. It will also involve replacing the old rescue and lifeguard modules with new, updated structures. This will make them more visible, accessible, and identifiable to users, thus achieving the complete integration of these elements with the pedestrian traffic area of the promenade.
The Vice President of the Islantilla Community and Deputy Mayor of Lepe, Mariana Otero, expressed her satisfaction "with the start of works that will transform one of the busiest spots in our destination, opening a new plaza to the sea and providing the promenade with improved services for our visitors."
For his part, the First Deputy Mayor of Isla Cristina and island delegate to the Commonwealth, Francisco Zamudio, highlighted "the enormous effort this entity is making to undertake such a project, which, together with the other interventions included in this project, will be a catalyst for our destination, once again placing it at the forefront that it has always represented for the rest of the Huelva coast."
Specifically, the project's contract includes the supply of five prefabricated modules, two of which will house the Rescue and Lifeguard services (treatment room, customer service, lifeguard rest area, restroom, and lounge area), and three more that will house public restrooms (including showers and a locker room, separated by gender and with adapted elements).
In addition to all this, the construction of a raised wooden platform with a connecting ramp to the beach, 3 meters wide and with a maximum gradient of 6%, must be added, according to the basic project included in the contract's technical specifications.
