In the early 1990s, the municipalities of Lepe and Isla Cristina established the Islantilla Association to manage tourism. Work began on the necessary infrastructure and a leisure offering that had not existed in the area until then.

While most of the beaches in southern Spain are located on the east coast and directly on the Mediterranean Sea, the coast of Huelva is on the Atlantic Ocean and further west. It even runs all the way from near Cádiz to almost the Portuguese border. The coast of Huelva is part of the Costa de Luz, and you can count on daily sunshine and wide, white-sand beaches. And rest. Because the Costa de Huelva is much less crowded than the well-known beaches of Andalusia's east coast.

The Islantilla area is made up of several urban centres spread out along a strip parallel to the coast. The largest coastal centre is the lively Islantilla.

The beaches of the Costa de la Luz in the province of Huelva are said to be among the most beautiful in Spain and even Europe. You will find wide, kilometre-long strips of soft golden sand surrounded by dunes with pine forests that are fed by the crystal-clear water of the Atlantic Ocean.
