Ulysses narrates Leopold Bloom's walk through Dublin on June 16, 1904: eighteen hours in which the protagonist will encounter a series of characters who will make him reflect on his current life, past events, and future expectations. It is a long and complex novel that has generated no small amount of controversy. Published by James Joyce in 1922 with the support of his friend Sylvia Beach, owner of the Shakespeare and Company bookstore in Paris, the novel is considered, by some, an unparalleled masterpiece of world literature and, by others, an exacerbated monument to chaos. Its more than a thousand pages of formal experimentation, with twists and turns in time, leave no one indifferent. It is, however, one of the works that most faithfully represents the innovative spirit in literature of the avant-garde movements of the early twentieth century.
